From the grave

I take death very hard. And I mourn different. Differently, I should say. I never expected MF DOOM's passing. I listened to his music religiously while on Republic. Just trying to hold on to my underground edge. Out of respect, when he passed I took a break from listening. 

Tonight changed that. 

A few of his bars snagged my mind, so I listened to his radio station on Pandora (neutral spot). I feel like I met my best friend again. His character shows through every beat and bar. Killer sarcasm, awesome similies... DOOM WAS KING. He is missed and will be missed.

For the record, I hope his family is doing right by his legacy. Money is an object, not a goal. A reward, not an award.

As of now, DOOM is my second in command. 9th has his hands full with March Madness, and AL is reloading. Jeff and Green have their own calling. Dre3k is the treasurer, preserving our collective value. Korn is our attack against persecution. Jim Carrey is our ambassador.

You can't be too demanding as a producer. And it's possible that I've been too hard on the artists my gang works with. I just know the potential of each, and feel not much time is left on the clock for the culture. Shouts to Korn for being so pleasantly loud.

As esoteric as it is, being each of you brings a rare sense of pride and completion. That still doesn't stop me from going hard on the mic/boards.

I'm actually pretty successful, if I think about it.

I've been listening to a lot of CoFlow (#CompanyFlow) lately. El-P is a BEAST, fam. Gang, I think we need better MUSICAL communication. I LOVE 9th's new joint, and there's some joints on there I can see he had me in mind for. That's why I'm taking my time before I record to them. Plus the Think About It joint is NUTS. But yeah. So, 9th's new joint is flawless. And like every other Zion, he features his newest artists. This time around it was a woman named Amber Navran. I don't know much about her, but her lyrics hit home (on an other scale) and the vocal arrangement is legendary. I see why 9th signed her. Well, I only wish her the best.

A serious note.

Before I started making beats, the members of Columbine Gang were all I was listening to post-Eminem. He hadn't dropped in a while, and I felt I was a stronger contender in hip-hop by not listening to him all the time. So I listened INTENTLY to Prodigy's "Keep It Thoro" instrumental (ALC), and was always pleasantly surprised when I saw a 9th beat on an instrumental mixtape. 

Then Green Lantern dropped his beats on a mixtape. VERY inspired. This was around college. I then somehow got my hands on "The Return of The Magnficent" instrumentals. The inspiration continued. I always used to listen to ONE Korn album. "Follow the Leader". I know that album back to front. As you can see, Jim Carrey's slapstick comedy was measured by my dry (yet slippery when wet) sense of humor.

I listened to "The Love Below" RELIGIOUSLY in high school after my man CKing put me on. I always thought 3000 was nice, but DAMN did he put it down with that album. And I personally feel that MF DOOM was too good for us. He had a whole mindstate with him that is simple, yet artistically complex. Follow your soul, but watch where it goes, basically.

Thank you for your inspiration. I plan to listen to some 9th in a little while. But again. Thank you for being there when no one knew the rhythm to my heart. I appreciate you.
